ABOUT VOICE OF MAMA
What is Voice of Mama?
Voice of Mama is a calming audio app that helps children learn, relax, and fall asleep. Its age-appropriate library combines educational stories and journeys with bedtime stories, lullabies, sleep sounds, and other gentle audio. Families can also add optional personalization, including stories narrated in the voice of a parent or a grandparent who lives far away.
How does Voice of Mama work?
An adult creates an account and chooses age-appropriate audio from the library, including educational stories, calming bedtime content, lullabies, and sleep sounds. The experience is designed to help a child move from quiet learning to relaxation and sleep. Families may also personalize selected stories or add the voice of a parent, caregiver, or long-distance grandparent.
How is Voice of Mama different from a regular kids' audiobook app?
Voice of Mama is designed around the transition from calm curiosity to sleep. Its audio helps children explore age-appropriate ideas without the fast pace or visual stimulation of many children's products, then wind down with bedtime stories, lullabies, and sleep sounds. Optional voice and story personalization can make that experience more personal.
How does Voice of Mama combine education and sleep?
Voice of Mama presents educational subjects through gentle, age-appropriate storytelling. While the narrator tells the story, families can choose meditative music, soft piano, or a music-box lullaby in the background. They can also add ambient sounds such as rain or ocean waves. Together, the calm narration, music, and optional nature sounds create a soothing atmosphere that helps a child settle, relax, and transition toward sleep.
What can children learn with Voice of Mama?
Voice of Mama helps children expand their vocabulary and learn about literature, cultures, mythology, history, geography, science, and social-emotional skills through calming, age-appropriate stories. The library includes classic children's literature, fairytales, stories from around the world, mythology, and history. Children can learn interesting facts about different countries and cultures, explore science through questions such as "Why Is the Sky Blue?", and develop social-emotional skills through stories such as "How to Make Friends." Every topic is presented as an engaging story rather than a dry lecture, using gentle language and calming pacing to make learning relaxing and bedtime-friendly.
What ages is Voice of Mama designed for?
Voice of Mama is designed primarily for children ages 0–12. Its content is tailored to different ages and stages, from soothing sounds and lullabies for babies to fairytales and educational stories for older children. Anyone who enjoys relaxing educational content and cozy fairytales can enjoy listening, too.
How does Voice of Mama choose age-appropriate content for my child?
When a parent creates a child profile, Voice of Mama asks only for the child's name and age. The app uses the child's age to adjust its recommendations and present content that best fits that stage of development.
VOICE CREATION AND PERSONALIZATION
How much do I need to record to create my voice?
About 90 seconds of recording is usually enough to create your personalized voice. Read the short sample provided in the app and speak naturally, as though you were reading a fairytale to your child. For the best result, record in a quiet room and keep the microphone close enough to capture your voice clearly. Background noise can reduce the quality of the personalized narration.
Will I sound robotic?
Nope. Parents tell us their kids can't tell the difference — they just hear Mom or Dad reading them a story about characters they love.
Can a grandparent or another caregiver record a voice?
Yes. With their informed consent, a grandparent or another trusted caregiver can record a voice. This can be especially meaningful for grandparents who live far away, allowing a child to hear Grandma's or Grandpa's voice as part of a familiar story and bedtime routine. Never upload or clone someone's voice without permission.
Can I create more than one caregiver voice?
Yes. A Premium subscription allows you to create and save up to five voices on one account. These can include the voices of parents, guardians, or grandparents who live far away, provided each person gives informed consent.
Can Voice of Mama say my child's name in a story?
Yes. If you choose to provide your child's name, you can create personalized stories starring your child, their friends, and their favorite characters. When you create a child profile, Voice of Mama asks for the child's name and age, but neither is required. This information is used only to personalize stories and tailor content to the child's age.
Can I create my own story, or only choose from the library?
You can create a personalized story after adding at least one voice to your account. The story can feature your child, their friends, and their favorite characters. You can provide your own plot or simply choose what you would like the story to teach. Every generated story is designed to be age-appropriate and suitable for a calming bedtime routine. You can also use the Narrate feature to hear a story from the Voice of Mama library in one of your saved voices. Currently, Narrate is available for stories under 15 minutes long.
BEDTIME STORIES AND LISTENING
What kind of bedtime content is available?
Voice of Mama combines calming educational stories with sleep-focused audio. Depending on the current catalog, children can explore subjects such as stories from around the world, history, mythology, science, nature, geography, vocabulary, and social-emotional themes, then wind down with bedtime stories, lullabies, calming music, and sleep sounds. Optional personalized stories and familiar-family narration add another layer.
Who developed the sleep content — are certified sleep consultants involved?
Yes. Voice of Mama's sleep and calming content is developed in partnership with certified pediatric sleep consultants and child psychologists. They guide the pacing, tone, language, and structure of all sleep-specific tracks to align with evidence-based sleep hygiene practices for children. The goal is not just to soothe in the moment, but to support healthy, independent sleep habits over time.
Can I choose the background music and sounds?
Yes. While a story is being narrated, you can choose meditative music, soft piano, or a music-box lullaby. You can also add ambient sounds such as rain or ocean waves to create a soothing soundscape that helps your child settle and relax.
Is Voice of Mama screen-free?
Yes, the listening experience is designed to reduce visual stimulation at bedtime. An adult uses the app to choose and start the audio, after which the child can listen without watching a screen.
Can Voice of Mama help when a parent is traveling or away at bedtime?
It can help preserve a familiar part of the bedtime routine by letting a child hear stories in that parent's voice. It is also useful for grandparents, co-parents, military families, shift workers, hospital stays, and other times when a loved one cannot read in person.
Does Voice of Mama replace reading together?
No. Voice of Mama is a flexible addition to a family's bedtime routine. It can help on busy nights or when a loved one is away, while live reading and connection remain valuable whenever possible.
Will Voice of Mama make my child fall asleep?
No app can guarantee sleep. Voice of Mama is designed to support a calm, predictable bedtime routine through gentle audio and a familiar voice, but every child's sleep needs and responses are different.
Can we listen without an internet connection?
Yes. Premium subscribers can download selected stories for offline listening. Tap Download on each story while you have an internet connection, and it will be available to play offline later.
Can I use Voice of Mama on iPhone, iPad, or Android?
Voice of Mama is available on iPhone and iPad, with Android coming soon.
